PRIVACY POLICY

The Student-to-Student Peer Counseling Club is a group of students trained to provide free, one-on-one, confidential help to Grossmont College students.

Student Club

Our club is a student-initiated and student-run club. As peer counselors, we provide a supportive atmosphere where students can openly talk about their feelings. We want to help you develop your own solutions to problems and uncertanties. Additionally, we provide up-to-date referrals for students who are need/ are seeking professional or specialized help.

Peer to Peer Interaction

We are not professional, licensed counselors. This allows us to communicate with students as their peers. We feel that people can help others through supportive interactions. Our goal is to create a safe atmosphere of warm caring and trust, so that a student in need of help can explore his/her feelings and develop his/her own plans and solutions to his/her difficulties. In step with this philosophy, peer counselors do not evaluate, diagnose or advise. We are trained to listen empathically, a method of counseling that has been shown to improve mood, decrease stress, depression, absences from work/school, and illnesses.
